Video Editor

The Video Editor will primarily be responsible for editing raw footage captured at conference and completing the planned video projects. Specific skills and responsibilities include:

Skills Needed: 

Experience in Final Cut Pro, Soundtrack Pro, and Photoshop. DVD authoring experience with iDVD or DVD Studio Pro.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Communicate with EAST Director of Training & Events, team manager and other team members regularly prior to Conference to develop a conference coverage plan.
  • Work with Director of Training & Events, team manager, and other team members to design a post conference plan to ensure the documentation gathered is complete, organized and delivered to EAST in a timely manner.
  • Prepare shot lists, transitions and graphic elements for video.
  • Have an understanding of copyright laws (music and video).
  • Compile, edit, name and organize all video files at the end of each Conference day.
  • Provide complete edited videos and all raw footage on CD or DVD to EAST before leaving the Conference, as well as leaving all files on workroom computer.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Submission Instructions for the Video Editor

To apply for the Video Editor position, complete the following nomination and submission requirements and email to by December 16, 2009. Students applying must provide the following:

  1.  Facilitator letter of recommendation. Please include:
    • Position title and why the nominee should be considered for the position.
    • Past experience/roles that would benefit nominee in the position.
    • Examples of editing experience, organization and other skills that would be of benefit in this position.
    • Days and times nominee can be reached by phone (preferably during the school day) and phone number.
    • Email address of nominee.
    • School and facilitator name.
    • Facilitator email address.
  2. Letter of application. A typed, one-page document (no bigger than 12-pt. font) telling us a little about yourself, why you should be considered for the position, explaining past experience that would help in this position, what formal training you have in editing, what editing programs are you familiar with and use, etc. 
  3. One- to two-minute candid documentary-style video created by the student. This could be similar to what you would capture at the Conference or a promo video on a project your program is bringing to the Conference. We are looking for real life footage and will review your editing techniques. Must be burned to DVD and received at the EAST offices by 5:00 PM on the submission deadline date to be considered.

Technical guidelines to making your video:

  • No longer than 2 minutes.
  • CUTS ONLY!  No other transitions with the exception of a cross dissolve in from black at the beginning and a cross dissolve out to black at the end.
  • Use music but pay attention to copyright issues.
  • Include a title page in the first ten seconds with your contact info.
  • Include rolling credits at the end, including all participants and software used.

Completed application packets (student letter and DVD) must be RECEIVED at the EAST office by Wednesday, December 16, 2009.  Submissions received after this date will not be eligible for competition. If delivering in person, the EAST office must have them no later than 5:00 PM, CST.
